As a designer / inventor for over 25 years, it has been my pleasure to provide premium quality custom tooling to a variety of professional trades. Although I have not been blessed with the ability to draw or paint, I have been gifted with a keen eye for quality and detail regarding a given artist's work. This has led to the development of specialty tooling where the design criteria is based upon the individuals's style and technique. Primarily focusing on arts and crafts, my design efforts result in professional level tooling used by artists around the world in the areas of jewelry fabrication, sculpting, chasing and repousse, planishing and raising and most recently, scrimshaw. The one element most commonly shared among these and many other crafts is the difficulty in finding the correct tooling, and finding it at a level of quality where one might expect a lifetime of rigorous performance. Often we see homemade equipment being used as an alternative. While these items do the job, many artists feel that obtaining tools designed for their specific needs allows them to develope a definitive technique that is not necessarily practical or possible with makeshift items.
Since little information seems to be available regarding a universally accepted tool to perform the art of scrimshaw by today's standards, I have developed a line of scribes which takes into consideration the predominant technique features commonly used by most artists. Beyond this, I often work closely with the individual to develope a tool to accomodate specific needs. These are completely hand crafted items that offer premium quality in terms of design materials and craftmanship.
