Scrimshaw Gallery - Jim Stevens
Entitled "No Rest", this large, award winning work depicts a mother wolf and her insistent  pups.  Scribed onto a beautifully curved, extremely thick bark segment of mammoth ivory, and mounted on a hand carved base of matched ebony and cocobolo wood.  The front of the base is also highlighted with an inlaid horizontal column of hand wrought rich brass.   The half-pin mounts and curved, angled, back support are hand-carved cocobolo wood.   10.75-inches x 2.75-inches x 3.75-inches high.
Entitled "Open Ranges" , this double-sided, award winning work of scrimshaw on ancient mammoth ivory shows us the endangered great open range animals of North America. The buffalo of the grass prairie and the polar bear of the Arctic ice.  The base is hand carved warm cocobolo on the prairie side and cool purpleheart on the Arctic side. The sides are separated by a striking band of hand wrought polished brass. Both sides display the title on scrimshawed antique ivory.
4-inches x 2-inches x 2-inches high.
Entitled "Fortyniner" , a stooped prospector panning for a future on this award winning unique artifact of mammoth ivory. The beautiful shades and colors of the ancient ivory are incorporated into the scrimshaw image to create a one-of-a-kind work of art.   The base is hand carved cocobolo wood with a gold wire accent.   4-inches x 4.5-inches high.
Scrimwork depicting portraits of Bengal, Siberian, and Sumatran tigers, on an 8.5-inch tip of an African elephant tusk.
