Bob Hergert
In the small town of Port Orford in Oregon resides a talented artist & scrimshander named Bob Hergert. For almost thirty years Bob has been scribing ivory, first for jewelry, then on custom knife handles, and then on virtually anything ivory.  He uses a stippling technique for most of his work.  This allows him to incorporate very fine detail and fine shading.  Unfortunately, it is time quite consuming.  He is probably best known for his work on knives, and half his work is currently done on knife handles.  Bob has an excellent website at Micro-Scrimshaw by Bob Hergert
Bob has a Photo CD available full of images that he has scrimmed over the years for those of you interested in seeing more of his work.  I highly recommend it and I have included the six images below from that CD to give you an idea of the range of Bob's work.  He also produces a CD in which he shares his knowledge and technique with anyone wishing to try scrimshaw, or wanting to improve his own technique.  I understand it is well worth acquiring if you want to scribe ivory.  Info is available on his website on both CD's.  Bob's e-mail address is Hergert@Scrimshander.com.
