Gary Williams, aka Garbo
A fellow collector referred Dick Ertel to Gary's website, who was immediately impressed by Gary's unique style, particularly his wildlife subjects, which are quite wonderful.  But it was his "people" scrims that really grabbed Dick’s attention, probably because his cabinet lacks these, outside of a few mermaids.

Several scrimshanders do good wildlife scenes, but not many do the kind of people portraits that Gary does.  Dick is very pleased with the whaler portrait commissions that Gary recently completed.  Dick is already planning another scrim when his schedule allows.

Gary has an extensive background in the arts, which includes painting, sculpture and illustration work in addition to his scrimshaw.  He goes by the pen name "Garbo" and signs his scrimshaw with that name.  He does much of his work on custom knives, but when he does a larger ivory such as a nice whale tooth, his scrims really shine.
