Sandra Brady
Sandra Brady has always been involved in art.  While still in grade school, Sandra took classes at the Toledo Museum of Art.  Whether drawing, painting, or throwing pots, she loved it all.  So when Sandra had the opportunity to learn scrimshaw, and get paid for it, she jumped at the chance. That was in high school, and she has been “scratching” out a living ever since.

Sandra continued her education at the University of Toledo, and at the Toledo Museum of Art: taking classes in drawing, painting and printmaking with a particular focus on anatomy and the human form.  This has allowed her to pursue the wildlife themes in the scrimshaw art that she has grown to love.

There were no classes available in scrimshaw back then, so her technique was largely developed through trial and error.  Thirty years of work has refined her technique & style to what it is today.  Though she specializes in wildlife, her subject matter can also vary from architecture to portraits, fantasy, or special themes.  Sandra also teaches scrimshaw, gives short talks, seminars, & demonstrations, as well as attends trade shows throughout the country.  Sandra gladly accepts commissions, which in fact, make up the bulk of her scrimwork.  Subject & matrix for her scrimshaw range widely from practical, useable items, to collectible fine art pieces.

Sandra’s scrimwork can be found is in private collections all over the world.  Her work has been displayed in the Carolina State Museum and the Art Museum of South Texas.  She has been featured in books and many magazine articles, with several new articles & book features due for publication in 2007.

She resides with her husband Jim in the Toledo Ohio area. They share their home with daughter Emily, dogs Dolly and Rocky, and cats, Boomer, Target, and Wobbles.
