Stolen Historical Marquesas Island Ornament
This Marquesas Island ear ornament has been stolen from a client of
Galerie Meyer - Oceanic Art.
This as a large ha'akai, or ear ornament from the Marquesas Islands, Polynesia, made of two pieces carved from Sperm whale (physeter catodon) tooth, and fiber.  The spur is a seperately carved piece, set into the base plate.
Circa early to mid 19th century. 10 x 8.2 x 3.8 cm. The small figure is 3 cm high.
Please contact either Galerie Meyer - Oceanic Art (below) or your local Police Department if you see this piece, or are offered it for sale.  A reward is offered for the return of the piece, or information allowing the complete recovery of the item.  Legal pursuit will be abandoned in exchange for the return of the art work in good condition.
